Slide Deck for Manufacturing Companies
Manufacturing companies operate in a world of data, process discipline, and customer accountability. Every presentation — whether you're kicking off a new product launch with a Tier 1 automotive OEM or presenting your quality metrics to a customer threatening to dual-source you — needs to be precise, metric-driven, and structured around what your audience actually needs to make decisions.
This guide covers the core presentation types for manufacturers, from customer-facing decks to internal operations reviews.
Customer New Product Introduction (NPI) Kickoff
The NPI kickoff presentation sets the stage for product development. It's your opportunity to demonstrate process maturity and give the customer confidence you'll deliver PPAP on time.
APQP Overview
Walk through the Advanced Product Quality Planning framework: Phase 1 (Plan and Define), Phase 2 (Product Design and Development), Phase 3 (Process Design and Development), Phase 4 (Product and Process Validation), and Phase 5 (Feedback, Assessment, and Corrective Action). For each phase, show your planned start and completion date, key deliverables, and who owns them.
Include your DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) schedule if you have design responsibility. Always include the PFMEA schedule — this is your process failure analysis, which every manufacturer owns regardless of design responsibility. Show the control plan timeline. Confirm the PPAP submission date and PPAP level required by the customer.
Capacity Analysis
Customers need to know you can produce their volumes. Show your OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) calculation: Availability × Performance × Quality. Industry average OEE is around 60%; world-class manufacturers achieve 85%+. Show your current OEE on the planned production line and the available capacity headroom.
Compare your cycle time to takt time. Takt time is customer demand rate — if the customer needs 500 parts per day on an 8-hour shift, takt time is 57.6 seconds. If your cycle time exceeds takt time, explain your mitigation plan (additional shifts, capacity investment, outsourcing).
Quality Management Review
Whether this is an internal management review or a customer quality review, the structure is consistent: performance data, root cause analysis on key escapes, and improvement plans.
Certification Compliance
If you're IATF 16949 (automotive) or ISO 9001 certified, open with your audit status — last audit date, findings, and open corrective actions. Customers use this as a baseline.
Customer PPM
Customer PPM (parts per million defective) is the most visible quality metric. Show your PPM trend by customer over a rolling 12 months. Separate internal PPM from supplier PPM from inbound material — this tells you where your quality problems originate. Show first-pass yield by production line.
Cost of Poor Quality
COPQ includes internal failures (scrap, rework, sorting) and external failures (warranty, returns, customer chargebacks). Showing COPQ trends demonstrates you're managing quality as a business issue, not just a compliance requirement.
Plant Tour Supporting Slide Deck
When customers visit, your facility tells one story and your slides tell the supporting narrative. Use your plant tour deck to cover what they won't see just by walking the floor: your process flow (incoming material → machining/forming/assembly → inspection → packaging → shipping), key equipment capabilities (tolerances, materials processed, automation level), capital investments over the last three years, your safety record (TRIR, EMR), and your environmental certifications (ISO 14001, LEED, energy reduction programs).
Keep this deck short — 10 to 12 slides. Customers on a plant tour don't want to sit in a conference room. Use the slides at the beginning to orient them, then save detailed Q&A for after the walk.
Annual Business Review to Key Customers
The annual business review (ABR) is your most important customer-facing presentation. It's a relationship checkpoint and often an opportunity to lock in next year's business.
Delivery Performance
Lead with on-time delivery — the single metric customers care about most. Show monthly OTD for the year. If performance dipped, explain why and what changed.
Quality Metrics
Show customer PPM trend. Highlight if you improved vs. prior year. If you had significant quality events, address them directly: what happened, root cause, corrective action, and verification that the fix worked (using PPAP re-submission or customer acceptance data if applicable).
Capacity and Investment
Tell the customer what capital investments you made this year (new equipment, tooling, automation) and what you're planning next year. This signals you're investing in the relationship and building capacity to support their growth.
Price Adjustment Rationale
If you need a price increase, the ABR is the place to present it. Support your request with data: steel index movement (use CRU or MetalMiner), energy cost trends, labor cost increases with BLS data, and any tooling refresh requirements. Customers respect data-supported requests; they resist unsupported ones.
Upcoming Product Launches
Preview any new programs launching in the next 12-18 months. Show how they integrate into your existing capacity plan.
Lean Manufacturing Implementation Presentation
Whether presenting to leadership or to a customer auditing your continuous improvement culture, a lean deck needs to show real results, not just theory.
Value Stream Mapping
Show the current state value stream map and the future state map side by side. Annotate the improvements: lead time reduction, inventory reduction, WIP reduction. Use actual numbers, not percentages.
A3 Problem-Solving Examples
Include two or three A3 examples from the year. An A3 shows: problem statement, current state analysis (with data), root cause analysis (fishbone or 5-why), countermeasures, implementation plan, and results. This is the most credible way to demonstrate your problem-solving culture.
Kaizen Event Results
If you run kaizen events (rapid improvement workshops), summarize results: event topic, team size, duration, improvements achieved (cycle time reduced from X to Y, changeover reduced from A to B).
OEE Improvement Trend
Show a 12-month OEE trend by line. Year-over-year improvement in OEE is proof your lean program delivers business results.
Sales Presentation for New Customer Acquisition
When pursuing a new customer, your capabilities deck needs to answer three questions: Can you make what I need? Can I trust your quality? Can you handle my volume?
Cover your manufacturing capabilities (materials processed, processes, tolerances, volume range from prototype to high-volume production), quality certifications (IATF 16949 for automotive, AS9100 for aerospace, NADCAP for special processes), capacity availability, tooling capabilities (in-house tooling vs. tooling partners), and realistic lead time commitments.
Supply Chain Risk Presentation
Post-COVID customers are acutely sensitive to single-source risk. If you're presenting a dual-sourcing proposal or explaining your supply chain resilience, build slides around: your tier 2 and tier 3 supplier risk concentration, your material buffer inventory strategy (days on hand by critical commodity), your geographic diversification, and your dual-sourcing or near-shoring plans.
