Culture and Values Refresh Presentation Template

Culture and values presentations are among the most cynicism-prone in corporate life. Employees have seen enough values-on-the-wall exercises that produced no behavioral change to be skeptical by default. A values refresh presentation that earns genuine engagement needs to acknowledge that cynicism directly, demonstrate that the refresh is grounded in real feedback rather than consulting exercises, and connect values to observable behaviors rather than aspirational adjectives.

When to Refresh Culture and Values

A values refresh is warranted when the company has grown significantly, undergone a major strategic shift, completed a merger, or when existing values no longer describe how the company actually operates and wants to operate. Refreshing values because "it's been five years" or because leadership wants a re-branding exercise rarely produces lasting change.

If you are presenting a values refresh, the first question the audience will have — whether or not they say it — is: why now? Answer it directly and honestly.

Recommended Structure

Why we are doing this (1–2 slides): The specific trigger. What happened, what changed, or what feedback from employees prompted this work? If the old values no longer reflect the company, say what specifically is different. Do not present a refresh as a celebration if the real driver is a recognition that something was not working.

How we developed this (2 slides): Who was involved in the process? How many employees participated? What did you hear from them? A values refresh developed by a small leadership team in isolation, then presented as a company-wide initiative, is already in trouble. Show that the development process was broad-based. Include direct quotes from employee input that shaped the final values.

The new values (1–2 slides): The values themselves, stated clearly. For each value, include a one-sentence definition and two to three concrete behaviors that demonstrate it. "Integrity" is not a value — "We say what we mean, do what we say, and tell people when we cannot" is a value. The behavioral specificity is what separates values that change behavior from values that decorate walls.

What this means day to day (2 slides): How do these values show up in hiring decisions? In performance conversations? In how the company handles a conflict between short-term revenue and long-term customer trust? Give real scenarios, not hypotheticals. If you have current examples of the values in action, include them.

What changes as a result (1 slide): If the values are genuinely different from the previous ones, some things will change — how performance is evaluated, how decisions are made, what behaviors are recognized. Be specific. Values without changed systems are decoration.

How we will hold ourselves accountable (1 slide): What mechanisms will make the values observable over time? Are the new values incorporated into the performance review process? Into hiring criteria? Into leadership feedback? Is there a mechanism for employees to flag when the company is not living the values?

Delivery Matters as Much as Content

A values presentation delivered only from the top down carries less weight than one where employees at multiple levels participate in the telling. Consider building in employee voices — short recorded clips, quotes attributed to real employees with their permission, or a panel of employees who participated in the development process.

After the all-company presentation, team-level conversations facilitated by managers are where the values actually take root. Provide managers with a discussion guide and specific questions to ask their teams.
